welcome Sticky Lyrics Win Musicians $2,500 Cash in Duck® Brand Duct Tape Rock About the Roll Contest
CLEVELAND, November 6, 2003 – You may not have heard of the rock/ska song, When I’m Stuck I Turn to Duct Tape, by the band Something To Do, but the tune, once heard, will certainly stick in the minds of listeners like duct tape on an old Chevy. The song, written about duct tape, has earned the band the first place prize, $2,500 cash, in the Rock About the Roll Contest™ sponsored by Duck® brand duct tape. Something To Do band members Todd Nutter, 22, of Fond du Lac, Wis.; Nate Tredinnick, 22, of Madison, Wis.; Kenny Maciejewski, 27, of West Allis, Wis.; and Mike Barse, 25, and Marc Kuntz, 26, of Waukesha, Wis., beat out 154 entries from 36 states and Canada with their original song that incorporated duct tape in the lyrics. Trumpet player Mike Barse said he found the contest online and took the idea to the rest of the band. “Mike kept asking me to write a song about duct tape. He would write me notes, send me e-mails, leave messages on my phone and continuously mention it whenever I saw him,” said vocals and bass player, Nate Tredinnick. When the idea for the song finally hit him, Nate said it took about 20 minutes to write the tune. “We admit to thinking that the idea of writing a song about duct tape was both the coolest and craziest thing any member of our band had done, but we’re glad we did it, and we had fun doing it, “ said vocals and guitar player, Kenny Maciejewski. In addition to Something To Do, Henkel Consumer Adhesives, Inc., marketer of Duck® brand duct tape, awarded $1,000 cash to second place winner, Sticky McDuctalot (Andrew Huang) of North York, Ontario, Canada, for his rap song, We Broke Up Because I Didn’t Have Any Duct Tape and Then I Went to a Party. Third place winners, The Killer Biscuits (Michael Beeson and Charles Kulesar), of USAF Academy, Colorado Springs, Co., won $500 cash for their rock song, The Gift of a Lifetime. In addition, several individuals, including Hello Thursday of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada; Eskimo Tailor of Strongsville, Ohio; Patrick Bromley of Schaumburg, Ill.; NitruS of Scarborough, Ontario, Canada; Travis Chaney of Bentonville, Ark.; Vinyl Roots of North Hollywood, Calif.; Matt Graham of College Station, Texas; Elseworth of Riverside, Calif.; Adamant of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada; and Geoff Stephen and Wendy Cramps of London, Ontario, Canada, were named honorable mention winners and received a year’s supply of Duck® brand duct tape. Michelle Heffner, Digital Marketing Communications Manager for Henkel Consumer Adhesives, said the quality of the entries was outstanding. “We were impressed by the amount and originality of the tunes we received. These musicians expressed a lot of creativity and talent while incorporating duct tape in their lyrics.” To hear all of the winning entries in the Duck® brand duct tape Rock About the Roll Contest, click here.
