Do
I have to be a member of a group to enter?
No, we will accept entries from individuals, duets and groups.
Can
I be in two different groups that submit different songs?

submit an entry with another individual as a duet or with a group, and
vice versa.

is the deadline to enter?

Duct
Tape Song
Can
we use an existing tune and make up our own duct tape lyrics? Or do we
have to start from scratch?
We
cannot legally accept a parody as an entry to the contest. All songs must
have original music and lyrics. The rules state, "By entering the
Contest, entrants warrant that the submission is an original work, has
not been previously published or won any award, and that entrant is aware
of no conflicting rights in the submission including but not limited to
copyright or other intellectual property right." In addition, "All
submissions and song lyrics must be in English. All submissions must be
original works in both lyrics and musical composition. No parodies relying
on previously released musical composition will be accepted. Entrants
should not incorporate "samples" of copyrighted works into musical
or lyrical compositions."
How
long does the song have to be?
The song cannot exceed four minutes in length.
What
kind of music are you looking for?
While the contest is named "Rock About the Roll", we will accept
all genres of music - everything from country to classical, opera to punk
- let your creativity go!
How
many times do the words "duct tape" have to be in the song?
While there is no hard and fast rule on the exact number, the more references
to duct tape and the more prominent the mentions, the better you will
probably do in the judging.
Do
we actually have to have music with our lyrics?
If you have no access or ability to play music, you can submit yourself/duet/group
singing acapella.
Considering
the freedom of expression, what if my lyrics contain profanity, or curse
words?
I'm glad you asked! We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that
we reasonably believe, in our sole discretion, contains profanity, nudity,
or other offensive language, references or conduct, or in any way may
defame or jeopardize our good will or reputation.
When
will the songs be posted?
All eligible "Rock About the Roll" entries will be posted as
they arrive and are processed. While we pride ourselves on a quick turn-around
time, the large quantity of entries sometimes prohibits us from posting
photos immediately. Please do not call asking why your entry is not online.
All completed submissions will be posted by October 17, 2003.
I
want to submit my entry on-line, how do I do that?
You can send an e-mail to rockabouttheroll@ducktapeclub.com containing
the following attachments: the photo, signed and completed release forms
(one for each member of the group), and your personal information as detailed
in the rules under "How to Enter", and your song file in .wav
or mp3 format, and a typed sheet of the song's lyrics.
Here are
some highly recommended guidelines for successful scans of your e-mail
attachments:
- JPEG
Format
- Scanned
at 150 dpi
- If original
picture size is 4 or more inches across, then scan at 100%
- If original
